Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is “the way to optimize” a web page for search engines to rank better in search result page. Every Search Engine providers have their own ranking and indexing algorithm. None of these companies have ever published this algorithm. What ever, who ever talks SEO, is only talking what is learned by researching the results produced by a search engine.
To understand SEO better, first we should know what happens if you type ‘cash the web’ in Google search bar or in Google (The big guy in this business) site. They try and bring you most relevant pages listed to your search.
Most of the time you click the first link and there you go, you found what you wanted! Bravo Google!
How did they do it? It’s a *TOP SECRET – 4 UR I’s ONLY! G BOSS* subject. But if we analyze the results enough times we can find what factors are used to select and list pages.
There are 2 pages. One page talks about “Banana Republic” and the other about “Banana from Republic”. We know the first one is talking about a country or region and the second about the banana form this country or region. For a search keyword “Banana Republic” the search engine is supposed to return the first page and not the second even though both pages mention “Banana Republic” in its content. How is it done?
To apply the so called “secret formula” to a page they should know what is in that page. This is done by a small code called “BOT”. Search firms bot are named after the company names. A Google bot is called Googlebot etc. These bot visit your site and reads all pages and indexes them.
So, a bot visits your site and reads all pages there! What does it understands is important for the site owner. These bots are the start point to traffic from search engine called “Organic traffic”. YES! YES! Your site is designed well and it looks cool. DO the bot see that? What bots sees it much different than what you or your visitor sees. The bot can’t read or understand media files or flash object, etc.
I put it simple, as you create your webpage in a HTML editor your write your title, just to say, “I want to start my blog with SEOmax template” and select the font size 24 bold. This is fine for your visitors, not for the bot. The bot knows it is written. But what the bot don’t know is it is a title.
The title gets more priority than the content when it comes to indexing scale. Now if I search in Google, after it got indexed, for “blog with SEO template” a SEO page with the title “Start my SEOmax blog” will easily rank better than yours.
What is the difference? Your site code will looks something like “<p style=”font-size:24px; font-weight:bold;”>I want to start my blog with SEOmax template</p>”. A SEO page would display it “<h1> I want to start my blog with SEOmax template</h1>”. The <h1> tag tells the bot it is a title. There are <h1> to <h6> six tags.
SEO is like the Rubik’s cube.
The simple fact, Rubik’s cube is made out of 27 little cubes. Each face has a color. The complex part of it is, a 3×3×3 Rubik’s Cube can have (8! × 38−1) × (12! × 212−1)/2 = 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 different positions (permutations), [11] or about 4.3 × 1019, forty-three quintillion (short scale) or forty-three trillion (long scale).
To put this into perspective, if every permutation of a 57-millimeter Rubik’s Cube were lined up end to end, it would stretch out approximately 261 light years. If they were laid side by side, it would cover the earth approximately 276 times.
Theoretically, this cube can be unscrambled in 22 twist from any scrambled position. No one has demonstrated this yet!
Na, is it complicated enough?
The SEO is much complex than many discuss in forums and blogs. By reverse engineering the high ranking sites on search result page for a keyword could eventually lead you close to search engine algorithm.
A SEO page will feed the bot what is indented to feed. A title should be included in a title tag for bot to understand. Don’t worry about your design. Your can apply the same formatting to the title tag via CSS.
Why SEO?
By now it should be clear to you that your site should be listed first for a keyword search on any search engines result page. My view is that, get it on Google, then you will get it on others as well.
The basic: The better the rank in search result page, more browsers visit your site. The more the browsers, the more the money! (Don’t forget, your are @ CashTheWEB.com So you want to make money, right? ;0)
Organic Traffic (the traffic from search engine is called “Organic traffic”) is very valuable to negotiate your ad space price.
If you have chosen your keyword carefully, then you might know how many searches are done per day for your keyword. The keyword “honda” is searched approximately 44’000 times a day. If your site ranks # 1 in results page for keyword “honda”, then you can count on 10’000 unique visitors a day! Now we are talking business . . . ;0)
How SEO?
This is a subject to write another article. But I’ll brief it here . . .
Get your site well designed. The modern CMS handles this out-of-the-box or it can be implemented easily. I’ll list some here . . .
1. Title <title>
2. Heading tag <h1/>
3. Description <meta name=”description”>
4. Keywords <meta name=”keyword”>
5. Keyword density
6. Image tags <title>
7. Sitemap page <HTML>
8. xml sitemap OR Compressed
9. Apply <rel=”external nofollow”> to affiliates links
The above mentioned part can be implemented within your CMS or blogging platform. You don’t have to worry about it anymore. Pay your full attention in writing quality content. Write your content with a keyword in mind. Focus on that keyword. Where anchor tags play a big roll, your keyword should be included in the heading. Setup the CMS to convert the title to anchor tag.
Give some hints for the bot to understand the content of a page. In return the bot will index your site better. Remember: We are dealing with machines, not humans!
Balance your content to provide complete information, while SEO the page. Master this ART and the rest will fall in place by itself.
Happy SEO folks!
