Google PageRank algorithm in 2008
It’s time to start with web 3.0. Google has changed the way they rank each page. If you are still hunting for incoming links, you can drop it now and start to focus on getting your site higher in Digg and YouTube.
In the New Year, Google seems to be changing their algorithm and making the search results more time related. The leading search engine has been ranking items from popular sites like Digg higher than factual or historical sites like Wikipedia. Is this a move towards a Web 3.0? In other news, Kara Ratliff reports that Yahoo’s Chief Performance Expert, Steve Souders plans on joining the Google team on January 7th, 2008. For more details, keep visiting http://CashTheWeb.com
Here’s a hint: Do a bit of research on those press/news distribution sites and blog providers that currently have high PageRank from Google. Then focus your efforts on those. You’ll find that your additional content not only ranks highly, but shows up relatively quickly (usually within a day or 2, if not a few hours). Take about a month just to focus on creating additional content that can be mass-distributed to major sites like YouTube and Digg. Content that can be shared becomes viral marketing, and will do you much better than a few static websites in the end!
Cheers to Google!
AdSense alternatives
Many have reported a steep decline in AdSense earning. There are many reasons put forward to explain this phenomenon. Non from Google, as usual nothing will be disclosed, who missed the targeted earning for the last period. Why Google’s AdSense earning went tumbling down, even though flat hits and page view, is anybodies guess. Read more about it here . . . It is not the scope of this article.
At this point I can safely imagine many of you looking to switch ad network to better monetize your web traffic. Selecting an alternative is definitely difficult. AdSense, provided by a well know company, publishers feel comfortable with them.
The online advertising industry is growing rapidly. Forecast predicts it to be 44.6 billion for this year and that Internet will overtake radio in percentage of total ad spend next year, and overtake magazines in 2010. Given the growth forecast, there are tons of AdSense alternative ad networks mushrooming in this industry. As with any other business there are many coming and many will fail too. Selecting the right one is the key to successfully monetization.
In any case selling advertising space directly to advertisers will generate maximum revenue to your traffic. But many sites do not have the minimum required traffic to do so or didn’t rank better with Alexa!
Have you ever submitted your site to Alexa? It is a good idea to do so if you plan to directly sell ads in the future. Many advertisers check your site with Alexa before placing any ads on your site, so heads up now!
Ok, let’s get back to AdSense alternatives . . .
After doing some research on the net, I have concluded the following are the alternative ad networks to Google’s AdSense. I have chosen AdBrite and BidVertiser as they give you the opportunity to bid on ads.
“The Internet’s Ad Marketplace”, is an e-commerce site. Rather than selling books, CDs, or rare antiques, AdBrite sells ad space on thousands of websites.
If you’re a publisher, use AdBrite to set your own ad rates, and approve or reject every ad that’s purchased for your site. AdBrite enables you to instantly sell ads to your visitors via a “Your Ad Here” link, in addition to selling through AdBrite‘s marketplace and sales team.
Our revenue split is 75/25 in your favor. Through a small snippet of HTML placed on your site, we handle serving, scheduling, billing, customer service, and sales. About half of AdBrite‘s sales are generated from our marketplace and sales team, while the other half are generated from users clicking “Your Ad Here” on our publisher’s sites.
While AdBrite can provide publishers with more revenue and better ads than traditional ad networks such as Google AdSense, we work fine along-side them as a simple way to generate additional ad revenue by selling ads directly to your visitors — something the other ad systems don’t do.
If you’re using AdBrite in addition to another ad network, you can turn off AdBrite’s “run-of-network ads” and AdBrite will only display ads that have been approved by you. If you have no ads running, AdBrite will display nothing but “Your Ad Here”, so no real estate is wasted and you have nothing to lose.
AdBrite doesn’t display the big “brick” of ads that you’re used to. Rather, AdBrite gives publishers full control over the look and feel of their ads so AdBrite can be integrated seamlessly into any website.

How is ‘Alexa’ connected to online advertisement?
Advertisers need information such as daily page view, hits, unique visitors, etc. to judge the value of a website where they are about to place their ads. Often, very often publishers mislead the advertisers, giving them a positive value to get paid more for the very same space.
Now a days advertisers check the potential site with Alexa, to know how true the information they get from a potential publisher.
So what is this Alexa? This is a site rates any website for visitors, page view, etc and assigns an Alexa Rank. You should understand that this rating is the average of those who has Alexa tool bar installed and browse the net. Thus this is not accurate information, but very helpful to advertisers to judge a website.
The Google analytic is also good to track the site value. But, the Google analytic has a problem! It sets a cookie to expire some where in 2038. Thus a visitor came to your site will not be counted again till 2039. That makes Google Analytics useless for such purpose.
If you are about to sell some ad space, Then you should take the Alexa rating seriously.
