If you are maintaining a web site as hobby and not bothered to monetize it, then you probably don’t need to read this article.

Many people out there build a web site to monetize their traffic. At this point the web statistic becomes an important information.

Many times in the past I was confused with different statistic tools give different results. The counter on my site didn’t tally with those reports.

To have a statistic running on my web server is a luxury due to the space need to run the data base. Day by day it will grow to a level, where it can slow down the whole web server, especially if some one is on a shared hosting.

Many have integrated Google’s analytics. I personally do not prefer it as it sets cookie which expires after 2038. Thus some visited today will not be counted tomorrow or until 2039.

AddFreeStats is a free web statistic service I like recommend. It gives you far more detail than any other free web stats I have come across.

Implementing is easy as to copy the code and place it any where on your site. A small image appears on your site. There are options such as when to count a returning visitor as well as having the statistic information public or private.

Inevitably, this inattention to detail will only succeed in making your company appear not to care about small issues. A carefully written article shows that details matter to your company. In today’s customer service starved society, a little thing such as this can make all the difference in which company a customer will choose.

Write Testimonials and increase traffic

The keyboardIf you buy a product or use a service, write a testimonial and submit it to the merchant. Every merchant out there needs testimonials and they are often very receptive to get one. It helps to make testimonials of products or services related to your site’s theme. For example if you have a pet website and write a testimonial about a specific pet product, anyone reading that testimonial is likely to visit your site to see what more words of wisdom you can offer.

A testimonial is usually a quoted statement that is not longer than a few sentences or a few very short paragraphs. A good testimonial will include how the product benefited you. Submitting something like “I loved your product” may not get any air time so be as specific as you can, but keep it short and to the point.
When writing a testimonial, be sure to include your website address under your signature and verify that the merchant will include it with your testimonial if published. Your testimonial does not need to have a live link, its better if it does, however your website should at least display below your name.

Note that the testimonial does not have to relate to your websites topic, if it does, perfect, but it doesn’t have to.

If you don’t have products that you can write a testimonial on, join a related ezine and submit a testimonial for that ezine. Ezine get read a lot and if your testimonial is posted on the front page you likely to get plenty of visitors.
